Well the V7ndotcom Elursrebmem contest has turned out to be the largest SEO contest ever. The last contest was the Nigritude Ultramarine contest. The total for that contest only was around 200,000 indexed pages. This contest is less than two week sold and already has over 2 million results. Now as for the comment on nepatisum. Yahoo Has Already Launched A Blog Platform

There was a post about Yahoo is going to jump into blogging at Search Engine Journal. I am new to the search engine scene, but I know Yahoo has already been in blogging with their blogging platform they launched in Japan. I caught the article at SEOBook.com. I don't know, is there a difference really in Yahoo japan and just Yahoo? I understand Yahoo has been blogging since late 2003 with their Yahoo Korea which is owned mainly by Yahoo, as Yahoo Japan is owned mostly by Softbank and Yahoo. So a year and a half after Yahoo koreas blog launch I guess it's ready for the whole world to use it now.

As I run around the search engine forums thankfully I read about a javascript to block autolink from working. You can find the code named AutoBlink . It basically unlinks Googles autolinks. Good job Web Publishers.

Well I thought I would make a post about Googles autolink, since it is the uproar of the Search Engine industry right now. If you do not know what autolink is, it is a new feature on Googles toolbar. What it does is adds links to webpages content. Now from a users point of view, whats the big deal? Well it goes like this. Although it may be a useful tool for users to find things they need, it may be illegal. Why? Because, most content on websites are copyright protected. Which means it usually can't be copied, changed or redistributed without the website owners permission. What autolink does is add links to a website that the webmaster didnt put there. Thus altering the websites content. Google defends this practice by saying that the users have to turn on the autolink thus initating it, and all Google does is offer the tool. This just makes me think back to the Napster lawsuit. Napster didnt initiate the music downloads they just provided the tool, the user had to search and download the song. But, yet they were shut down for copyright infringement. So, has the greed of huge corporations gotten so great that they want a piece of the illegal pie too?

Google Loses Touch With Webmasters

With all the hype about Google and its relevant search results, has caused most webmasters to go blind. I have noticed Googles relevancy slip as it looks to broaden its hold on the internet. As a conclusion to my previous post, Google may have listened. Not to me, as I am a simple blogger. But I think Aaron Walls posts about Google screwing over good SEO sites . He also made some rather not so nice Google posts in some SEO forums I watch. It makes me think google listens to the well known industry leaders in SEO. Aaron wall reported to me he has suddenly reappeared in the Google SERP's for SEO Book. How did this happen? Did Google make 2 algorythms and start one a week before the other? Doubtful. It is my opinion Google backed off Aaron Wall's website and manually returned him into the SERP's. They had a 2 year old SEO website that was showing as #1 for SEO Book initially after the new algorythm. You tell me, How relevant could a 2 year old SEO website with outdated SEO techniques be more relevant that Aaron Wall's website? Comments always welcomed.

Google hits SEO with a knock out

Google recently changed their algorythms and put the SEO experts on notice. I usually don't rank well in Google for my blogs, so I usually don't pay much attention to Google. But last month they updated their algorythms and dropped some huge sites totally off the SERP. Aaron Wall of Seo Book was ranked #1 on all 3 major search engines for his keyword SEO Book. All 3 major search engines is MSN, Yahoo, and Google. But after the update he was dropped for the term SEO Book. The big question is why. Although there are probably better theories to the reason, I will give mine. I think Google is testing this new algorythm mainly on certain specific search terms. I do not think this new algorythm is in full effect yet. I think they tested it on some leading SEO terms to see the effect. Why? Could Google be getting greedy in the fast growing competition of search engines. Google actually left a feedback email address about their new update. They have never done that before, so I think they know they are pushing their luck on this one. Google, back before they went public was a good search engines. They seemed to have found a good relationship between webmasters and users looking for relevant search results. But, if I was Google and needed to have revenue grow for my shareholders, what better way than increasing webmasters advertising with their Google Adwords. Makes sense to me. They knock you off your search terms and make you use adword advertising to show for your search term. I think they may have pushed their luck this time. Time will only tell.

Yahoo Launches Blog Platform In Japan

Yahoo Japan, owned mostly by Softbank and partly by Yahoo, on Tuesday launched a test, or "beta," version of Yahoo Japan Blogs, a free service that lets users post blogs and up to 2GB of images, comment on other blogs, and associate their blogs with animated representations of users known as avatars.
"This is a basic community service," said a Yahoo Japan spokesperson who asked not to be named. "Last year there was a blog boom in Japan. Lots of portals have blogs now. So we came in late. But when we start, it will have an impact on a lot of Internet users here."
The launch could have implications for Yahoo users in the United States, too.
Yahoo's Asian blogging services are striking in that they precede any offerings or previews by Yahoo for its flagship portal. And Yahoo's lateness to the blogging game is all the more notable thanks to significant investment by Yahoo's main portal competitors, including Google, MSN and AOL.
Yahoo kept mum about its domestic blogging plans
"Yahoo has a deep history in the online self-publishing and communications space, and we continually evaluate market opportunities where we can leverage our assets to fill a market need," Yahoo spokesperson Mary Osako said. "We have not made any announcements specific to Yahoo offering blogging services in the U.S. to date."
The Yahoo Japan launch was more writing on the wall signaling blogs' future with Yahoo in the United States, one blogging veteran said.
"My sense is that Yahoo Japan launching this blog network is probably the next step toward Yahoo getting ready to launch blogging in the U.S.," said Susan Mernit, a former vice president in charge of Netscape's Netcenter portal who's now a digital media consultant with 5ive. "With the kind of scrutiny they've given to blogging and RSS (Really Simple Syndication) and news readers, it seems like the next step for Yahoo U.S. is to launch a blog service."
Yahoo Japan's blogging site uses technology from Yahoo Korea's blog site, launched in late 2003. But other than the technology back end, the systems are independent. Yahoo Korea is majority-owned by Yahoo.
Yahoo Japan did not set a date for the general launch of the service.

MSN Search Engine

Well Msn has phased in their new beta Search Engine. It is not technically fully phased in until February 1st. I will have to say that MSN's new Search Engine is kick butt. My sites are showing up very well on its results.

Header Tags

Well I learned im not banned. But i found out that two header tags on a page is not good. Only use one header tag. Why I dont know that yet, but when I had two in there it started messing my SERP up. My brother told me dont use two header tags so I'll find out why. I think it might be because the search engines might start thinking your trying to spam your html code out to get higher SERP.

Duplicate Content Ban

I thought I'd make a post about duplicate content. My other site HIV might have one right now. I would copy and paste news articles related to HIV to my site. I thought well its a good idea. Get all your HIV news source from one site. Unfortunately I guess thats not the way search engines like it. Actually just Google. Yahoo doesnt have a duplicate content ban from what I have seen. I read somewhere the ban can be up to 90 days. Well I'll see.

Whats Search Engine Rank Page (SERP)

This is a seperate ranking from Pagerank. SERP is the ranking you have when someone searchs for your keyword of your site. If someone searches for a car lets say and google come up with your site being listed #120 in the results thats your (SERP). Now google uses Hypertext-Matching Analysis to determine a pages relevance. My brother Aaron Wall who is a Search Engine Marketer has told me have unique content on your site. Google also filters out websites that are duplicate to other sites. To learn more you may want to think about grabbing this SEO BOOK.Well thats it for this lesson.

Whats PageRank? (PR)

Well theres 2 kinds of rankings that I've learned about. One is PageRank. This is where Google looks at how many links are pointing at your site. So if you have another site pointing a link at you its like a vote. But its not so simple. Google also looks at the site pointing the link to you. If it has a good PageRank it will filter to you. But if you get into linkexchanges where theres a site link page and it has 200 links pointing everywhere Google doesnt give it much weight. If you go that route you better get 1000's of links to get a decent PageRank.

What Is A Search Engine Index?

Ok, I am having a friend read my blog to let me know where I can improve things. He has no idea what the internets all about. So getting his view on things is good as it is a beginners look that i get feedback on. Well he said whats a search engine index. So I should make a post about what that is. The search engine index is pretty much how it sounds. It is where all the pages they crawl are stored. Most sites are put into the index using automated computer programs like crawlers, and even when you submit your site to a search engine through their submit page thats usually automated too. But there are human edited indexes. Which means they dont use a spider to index the internet. They have a person look at all the site submissions and than go to the webpage review and than add it to their index. Well I hope that answered the question what is a search engine index. How Does A Search Engine Index My Site?

Well most search engines have 2 ways of indexing the internet. One way is submitting your webpage to the search engine. Most search engines have a submit page, where you fill out a form telling the search engine the address of your website and sometimes also the topic and title. Now thats the long slow process of how to get in a search engine index. The fastest and easiest way is to have a link from another site already listed in the search engine index , pointing to your site. Why is this easier and faster? Now we come to the second way search engines index the internet. They use what "spiders" or also called "crawlers". These spiders are just programs. But what they do is crawl the internet and record pages. So if a spider is crawling a site it already has indexed and runs across the link to your new page, it will jump to your page and start crawling it and recording it into the index. What Is A Search Engine?

Well there are many "definitions of what a search engine is. But it basically is a server or bunch of servers that index the internet for people, and use a website for you to access the index using keywords that you're interested in. It sounds pretty straight forward. But it is far from that. The internet today has alot of search engines. But the 3 main ones I like to look at are, Google, Yahoo, and AltaVista. Now let me start off by saying I am a far shot from any type of Search Engine Marketer, or any type of Search Engine Optimization. I am getting very into this lately though, because i also have another site called myhivstory.com HIV . So I want to rank high in search engines for this website, so I am going to learn more about search engines and how they work. You can hang out at this blog and we all can learn together on how Search Engines work. Well this will be all for now. I'll put a post on later today after work.
